According to Newton's third law of Motion - every action has an equal and opposite reaction. e.g. You throw a ball on a wall (action), it rebounds (reaction) after hitting the wall. On similar lines, there is law of Karma that says that what you sow is what you reap.(the word karma literally means action)
Law of Karma very much illustrates a Cause and Effect phenomenon - every effect has a cause. Similarly every event in our life has a past karma that has caused it. Our Present is a sum total of all our past actions. Sometimes one event may act as a cause for the next, hence triggering a chain reaction of events. e.g. Your morning alarm doesnt work, you wake up late, you get late for office, you speed your car to make it on time and you are nabbed by the cops for speeding. What has happened is one event triggers circumstances that makes it more likely for some other event to happen. This doesnt mean that one event would definitely lead to a particular event, but it increases its probability. e.g. waking up late doesnt necessarily mean you will speed; however it increases the likeliness of that event.
Astrology helps you to decipher past actions or past karma, and predict the expected reactions (in future). In other words, it helps to understand what you did and what its outcome is going to be. The way these reactions or effects or events are manifested is a function of planetary positions and time. Astrology helps you to read these planetary positions and hence read the effects or reactions. Astrology is very much a mathematical modeling tool, it gives you the probability of an event happening in the future. From a utilitarian perspective, astrology helps you to know your future (reactions) events. These events could be regarding your health, retionships or work. It helps us to understand and "make sense" of the world in which we live. Why things happen the way they happen.
So far, so good... so what?
Since, any of these future events are probabilistic in nature (and not definitive), it gives us a way to alter these future events through conscious actions. In other words, since these predicted events are not bound to happen but only probable; they can be altered through new guided actions. What is important is that by knowing about these probable events or reactions; we can control them and make them favorable. However, strong a reaction it may be overpowered by stronger (new) actions. This takes us away from a fatalistic/destined approach to a more in-control way of looking at things.
